Biology Program

The biology major provides a rigorous research-based education for students, with a basic foundation in the life sciences. Special emphasis is placed on providing opportunities for students to participate in meaningful research in areas such as anatomy, genetics, physiology, molecular biology, evolution, natural history, and marine biology.

We hope that you will find the information you need. If there is anything you would like to see here please contact us and give us your suggestions. We are dedicated to making the learning process memorable for students who desire to enter the psychology field of study.

General Biology

Our general biology major offers a wide variety of experiences including hands-on laboratory experiments and field research done around the islands of scenic Hawaii. Concepts like the conservation endemic and native species, the anatomy and morphology of plants and animals along with the hands-on study if various local ecosystems are areas of study.

Career Opportunities

Students are well prepared to pursue careers in fish and wildlife services. As a research biologist, work in agricultural fields as a professional biologist or further their career in graduate school.

Marine Biology

Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean on the beautiful island of Oahu, our biology program offers an opportunity for students to study marine organisms, their behaviors, and their interactions in their natural habitats at different scenic beaches on the island.

Career Opportunities

Marine biologist, environmental scientist, marine life researcher, or graduate school.

Molecular Biology

Our biology program enables students to learn the fundamental principles of biology and helps them understand the relationship between biological principles by developing their ability to think critically, gain essential professional skills such as interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and develop solving skills including scientific inquiry. Students are also encouraged to pursue research in conjunction with faculty and through the 491-494 research class series.

Career opportunities

Biotechnology, research associate, lab technician, or graduate school.

Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation

Coursework in ecology, evolution, and conservation will help students gain a comprehensive understanding of the intricate relationships between organisms and their environment, the mechanisms behind evolution and adaptation, and ways to address major conservation challenges in our modern world. Through hands-on fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and rigorous coursework, students will develop critical thinking skills, hone their scientific inquiry abilities, and gain practical skills in data analysis and interpretation. In addition to providing a solid foundation for further academic pursuits, a degree in this area opens a wide range of career opportunities.

Career opportunities

Graduates can pursue careers in environmental consulting, wildlife management, conservation biology, education, and research, among others.
